Wasai Tambopata Lodge
Hotel Description
You'll never feel farther from civilization and closer to nature than at the Wasai Tambopata Lodge. Situated along a remote stretch of the Tambopata River surrounded by primary Amazonian rainforest, the lodge is a destination in and of itself where guests have opportunities to participate in numerous outdoor activities. By day, guests can explore the 12 miles of jungle trails; go kayaking, canoeing, fishing or birdwatching; visit a local community; see clay licks and waterfalls or get an adrenaline rush climbing trees, walking rope bridges or using the zip line. By night, their rustic yet comfortable rooms with mosquito netting over the open air windows await them. Each room has its own private bathroom and balcony with a hammock, which makes for a perfect place to relax and enjoy the sunsets over the river.
The lodge has a total of 16 bungalows and is able to accommodate up to 40 guests at a given time. The main building boasts a research center and a large open-air terrace where guests can gaze out over the rainforest as they relax on the couches and hammocks. The owners, staff and guides are all very friendly and are happy to assist guests with anything they might need, including wireless Internet, radio communications, expert guide service, river transportation and equipment such as canoes, kayaks and fishing equipment.
Area
The river journey from Puerto Maldonado to the lodge is 75 miles long (although the two sites are just 31 miles apart when drawing a straight line on the map). The lodge is situated within the Tambopata Candamo National Reserve and is often used as a starting point for tours into the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park. The local area has a wealth of natural attractions, including waterfalls, wildlife sighting areas, macaw clay licks, lakes and more.
Food & Beverage
The restaurant, open breakfast through dinner, serves both Peruvian and international cuisine in a distinctly rainforest-inspired atmosphere with views of both the river and the rainforest. The bar offers cold drinks and exotic cocktails all throughout the day.
How To Get There
To get to the lodge from Puerto Maldonado take a boat up the Tambopata River.
