El Parayso is a charming establishment surrounded by the lush green foliage and bustling wildlife of the Amazon rainforest. The Balarezo family tends to the grounds, cooks the meals, and guide jungle tours. Their unique relationship with this area and ecosystem makes for an educational and entertaining stay.
The riverbank, which gives way to a small sandy beach during the dry season, is just steps from each of the lodgings. This property offers two quaint double bungalows, each with comfortable twin beds. Both have their own private porch with a chair and a hammock, where guests can enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle.
There are several attractions offered by nature right on the grounds of El Parayso. The Tambopata River is just 100 feet from the bungalows. This is a great area to photograph the giant river otters swimming back and forth or turtles as they sun-bath on a floating log. The gorgeous caimans can also be seen. Playful monkeys and colorful, chattering birds are frequent visitors to the camp site.
Along the forest trail, guests will see typical Amazonian flora like ironwood, rubber, and kapok trees. The Balarezo family has amassed an impressive collection of local tools that were used throughout the last century by the local peoples. Night walks expose a different side of life in the forest, as incredible insects in all shapes and colors, nocturnal monkeys, and several reptile species scurry about.
Trips to a large local farm and along the floodplain trail are also included. The farm, which is situated on two acres of fertile land, grows papaya, coconuts, and banana, as well as some fruits not known in other parts of the world. Visitors can sample these rare delicacies, assuming they are in season.
Another trail is called the Floodplain trail, which offers hikes through an impressive forest of bamboo and even some trees and plants that have gone extinct in large parts of the Amazon. In addition, dozens of kinds of flowers in alien shapes and brilliant colors call this area home. Kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing, and cycling excursions can be arranged by the staff.
Food & Beverage
A typical Peruvian breakfast of hot and cold dishes and beverages is prepared each morning by the host family. Lunch and dinner are also provided. All meals are included in the room rate.
