It is a rare jewel of a hotel that unites convenience with warm hospitality and irresistible charm, but El Albergue Ollantaytambo Bed & Breakfast has managed to do just that. Travelers can literally step right off the Cuzco-Machu Picchu train and into this rustic garden oasis where hummingbirds drink from passion flowers and the guest rooms effuse an understated elegance. It's a small, intimate place with just eight rooms in all, each impeccably clean and with homey touches like colorful paintings and old wood floors and shutters. There's a wood-fired sauna, hammocks hanging in the garden and Wi-Fi access in the lobby for those with personal laptops.
But it's the genuinely friendly and attentive service provided by the hotel staff that truly rounds off a satisfying overnight stay at El Albergue. Aside from laundry service the staff is happy to arrange for road transportation and guide service to destinations across the Sacred Valley, some of which are within hiking distance.
Area
The entrance to El Albergue is located within the gates of the Ollantaytambo train station where trains depart for Machu Picchu (1 hour and 20 minutes away) and Cuzco. Pisac, Moray, Salineras and Chinchero are all within an hour's drive and the ruins of Ollantaytambo are within walking distance. The area's numerous historic and natural attractions make for some great hiking, mountain biking and river rafting opportunities.
Food & Beverage
Guests of El Albergue can't help but rave about their homemade gourmet meals accompanied by excellent coffee, pisco or wine. A full breakfast is served each morning, lunch can be packed to go and dinner is not to be missed. Room service is also available.
How To Get There
To get to the hotel from Machu Picchu or Cuzco simply take the train to Ollantaytambo. From points east in the Sacred Valley Ollantaytambo is reachable by road.
