Hotel Description

On the beaches of a small inlet of the Pacific Ocean lies the Hotel Puerto Inka alongside centuries-old Inca ruins open for all to explore. Miles of rocky desert separate this utterly secluded hotel from the nearest town, making it a tranquil getaway for vacationers. The basic accommodations comprise two-room cabins with private bathrooms and, in most cases, ocean views.

On site there is an outdoor swimming pool, dance club, karaoke bar, jungle gym, volleyball court, soccer field and hammocks. In addition to the sandy beaches (one of them with black sand) on the hotel's doorstep, scattered around Chala are several pre-Columbian archaeological ruins worth visiting.

The hotel is located in the Arequipa region of Peru on the beaches of a small inlet of the Pacific Ocean six miles west of Chala, the nearest town. It is secluded amidst rocky desert and lies next to ancient Inca ruins open for exploration, including the Cave of Penguins.

Food & Beverage

A basic complimentary breakfast of bread, jam and tea is served each morning. Eggs can be provided for a fee. There is a restaurant on site which offers à la carte fare and buffets for groups of ten or more. The bar is open in the evenings.

How To Get There

To get to the hotel from the town of Chala (in the Arequipa department of Peru), take the Pan-American Highway north to the 610-km mark then turn left down the dirt road leading to the hotel.

Deficiencies but Delightful
Fastidious, inflexible travelers may dislike the absence of wifi, air conditioning and wine by the glass and the presence of a dead bug, pealing paint and saltwater from the faucets in the sleeping rooms; but the setting is superb....beautiful, sandy beach bay; genuine Inca ruins to explore; hiking trails up both rocky bluffs; sea lions at play in the bay; good food beachside; great sunset; and the sound of surf instead of air conditioners at night. Good for families, except the pool lacks a shallow water area. Good for campers.
Couples should book room 302; it has a king bed and is close to the ocean. Two rooms in the 400's are even closer but may be for families. You can feel the surf pounding in these rooms that open to the ocean below.

From this hotel all the way south to Camana the drive is spectacular. Go slowly and don't try to go all the way to Arequipa in a single day.
