Hotel Description

Nestled in the mountains on the Puerto Lopez coast of Ecuador, the Mantaraya Lodge has brightly colored and luxurious accommodations with a wide range of activities for every age and preference. Rainforest Alliance and SmartVoyager have certified this property as being sustainable and environmentally responsible when it comes to the daily practices of staff and management. Common areas include a terrace and a lounge area. The staff can plan a variety of itineraries of different lengths that incorporate activities in the Machalilla National Park, Isla de la Plata, and beyond. Airport transportation can be arranged with the front desk, and private parking is complimentary for guests of the property.

Guest rooms are distributed around gardens and a pool, where guests can relax on a sun bed and enjoy a drink and the views over the mountains down to the coast. All accommodations and common areas are decorated in the same bright blue, white, and yellow decor with adobe-style architecture, red tile floors, and rustic wood furniture. This is enhanced by the luxurious bedding and towels, which make the lodge seem like even more of a unique place to stay. Each unit features a large balcony with hammock and seating from which to appreciate the view down to the bay. In addition, rooms have cable television, free Wi-Fi access, large sitting and work areas, and private bathrooms with natural yet elegant products. They are ventilated with fans and sleep between one and four people.

Puerto Lopez is a sleepy village on the coast of Ecuador - in itself, there is not much to do except relax and walk along deserted beaches, relax on the terraces of local people, and forget your worries. However, the area is rich in wildlife and ecological diversity, and that is what most guests come to enjoy. The Machalilla National Park is home to flora and fauna not found in other parts of the world, and includes more diverse wildlife by incorporating the Islas de la Plata.

The hotel is very much geared towards hosting guests who want to experience the natural diversity and untouched wilderness of the area, so activities arranged by the property range from whale watching and indigenous community visits in Agua Blanca a few minutes away, to horse riding, snorkeling, and handicraft classes. The easy-come, easy-go ambience of the area is only challenged by the wide range of recreational pursuits in which one can participate while there. The property is 60 miles from Manta.

Food & Beverage

The on-site restaurant serves both international and regional cuisine, and is accustomed to catering to vegetarians or people with special dietary requests. Breakfast is included in the price of the room. There is also a bar with views of the mountains and the coast beyond, making a lovely spot to enjoy a drink after a day's sightseeing. Some dining options lie in the town and include local cuisine and vegetarian options.

How To Get There

Take the E9 then E1 highway from Manta going south along the coast. When you arrive in town, go left onto Eloy Alfaro Street. When this forks, go left and the hotel will be two blocks up on the left.
