Hostel Carlos Gardel
Immersed in the charm and tradition of Buenos Aires' historic San Telmo neighborhood, the Hostel Carlos Gardel offers travelers comfortable accommodations in an attractive old home. It's a place to meet new friends, share travel stories and experience the best the city has to offer while enjoying the conveniences of home. There are a total of ten guest rooms featuring colorful décor, exposed brick walls, air conditioning and heating. There are both private and shared rooms, the latter containing individual lockers. The fully-equipped guest kitchen is a great place for hanging out, as is the lounge with its TV, DVD player, stereo, table games and books. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property and the youthful English-speaking staff provide a wealth of tourist information as well as bike rentals and tickets to soccer games, dance clubs and tango dinner shows.
The hostel is located in Buenos Aires' San Telmo neighborhood one-fifth of a mile from the Plaza Dorrego where an antiques fair is held on Sundays. Puerto Madero is within walking distance and the Independencia subway station can be reached on foot in 15 minutes or less. The Retiro bus terminal is 2.5 miles from the hostel and the Jorge Newbery and Ezeiza airports lie at a distance of 5.3 and 19.6 miles, respectively.
Food & Beverage
An Argentinean-style breakfast is served each morning from 8 to 10 am. There is also a fully-equipped communal kitchen where guests may prepare their own meals.
How To Get There
To get to the hostel from Buenos Aires' Plaza Dorrego head north along Defensa St. and take your first left onto Carlos Calvo St. Less than two blocks later you'll arrive at the hostel.
To get to the hostel from the Ezeiza International Airport take bus number 86 and get off at the intersection of Paseo Colón Ave. and Estados Unidos St. (2 hrs). Or take the Manuel Tienda León bus (45 mins).
To get to the hostel from the Jorge Newbery Airport take bus number 45 and get off at the intersection of Chacabuco St. and Carlos Calvo St. (55 mins).
To get to the hostel from Dársena Norte (Buquebus) take bus number 130 or 152 (25 mins).
To get to the hostel from the Retiro bus station take bus number 45 and get off at the intersection of Chacabuco St. and Carlos Calvo St. Or take bus number 28 or 126 and get off at the intersection of Bolívar St. and Carlos Calvo St. Alternatively, take bus 152 and get off at the intersection of Paseo Colón Ave. and Estados Unidos St. No matter which bus route you choose the trip will take about 25 minutes. Another option is to take line C of the subway to Independencia station.
